Bedfordshire Royal British Legion slams BNP

The RBL wants nothing to do with the BNP

The British National Party have been slammed by a Bedfordshire branch of the Royal British Legion after the extremist party attempted to hold an undercover meeting at its local club.

A furious Leighton branch of Royal British Legion Club told its local paper that it had been “hoodwinked” by the BNP after it had booked the war veteran’s club under the name ‘British Heritage’.

It wasn’t until Monday that Leighton’s local Conservative MP Andrew Selous, who also a member of the club, discovered the real identity of the group and stepped in to ask the Legion to cancel the date.

Mrs Johnson, the Legion’s secretary, told her local newspaper: “As soon as I heard we cancelled them. We don’t want those sort of people here. Our members wouldn’t be at all happy.”

Mr Selous said:

“The British Legion were tricked into taking the booking and I’m worried that people will still turn up thinking the meeting’s on.

I have had complaints from people who fought fascism in the Second World War and the British Legion isn’t prepared to give fascism promotion in any way… A BNP meeting in the Royal British Legion Club is not something we want in this town.”

This news comes after several veteran/Armed Forces stories relating to the BNP have resurfaced after we exposed the party’s attempts to hijack the Military and the honour of veterans back in October.

The author Bonnie Greer, who appeared alongside Nick Griffin on Question Time, told the London’s Evening Standardthat she was talking to several servicemen who have complained to her about the “considerable amount of pressure” they face to join the neo-fascist party. On Sunday the News of the World carried a story about a soldier from Prince Charles’s regiment. He was described as a “Nazi fan and BNP supporter” after he had posted pictures of his Swastika tattoos and his admiration for the ultra-nationalist party on his Facebook account.

A senior officer told the paper: “There is a lot of anger about the shame he has brought upon us all. He’s not fit to wear the uniform.”

After speaking to many veterans over the past few months, Nothing British has learnt that the extremist views of the BNP are widely held in contempt by Britain’s Armed Forces and our veterans. Several members of the public have even complained to us about the party’s attempts to exploit the war dead in Afghanistan for political advantage.

Despite the exaggerated claims of the BNP, most veterans are horrified by the admiration the BNP’s core supporters have for the Nazis and other enemies of Britain. The very fact that BNP members attempted to conceal their true identity to the Legion, a charity for war heroes, shows how they feel some shame about their extremist values.

Please read Stolen Valour for more information about the BNP’s efforts to hijack the Armed Forces.  Also read our dossier on the BNP’s astro-turf homeless veterans organisation Soldiers off the Street.

Who’s this Cretin calling the patriot BNP extremist and fascist when he himself is an MP for a real extremist and fascist political party?

Plus, why is the lowlife and idiotic Bonnie Greer even worth a mention? She has nothing to do with the real Britain. knows nothing about it, or it’s people. She claim she spoke to some ex servicemen. But did she? I smell bullshit, because I’m an ex serviceman and support the BNP, as do 90% of my former colleagues.

Good to see the Tories upholding our democratic rights as well as relying on that trusted source of truth, the News of the World! You really need to do better than this

NB You have forgotten to mention that your complaints mentioned in your “stolen valour” have been rejected by the authorities concerned, maybe if you put the same energy into promoting your own political party there would not be a problem with the rise of support for the bnp or is it that your own life is so unfulfilling and meaningless that you have to attack other peoples.

Maybe NB feel guilty about having right wing feelings of their own that’s why they’ve started this personal vendetta against anyone that objects to the PC brigade. How can you campaign against the politics of hate when you promote your own Cousins and Bethell.

It makes me sad that the Bedfordshire Royal British Legion should fall prey to such silly stereotyping.
The problem is that the BNP are damned if they do or if they don’t book under their real name, if they are open, then a flat refusal may well result or violent elements maybe attracted to attack the venue.
So discretion is often used to avoid any trouble & nobody knows they have been there, there are no uniforms or saluting, it is all very “conservative”!

Of course the key to this story is the local Conservative MP Andrew Selous who probably worries about losing votes to the BNP?

  7. WTF says:

Did you wear gloves when handling the News of the Screws?
Once again NB accepts anybodies old rubbish from anywhere for a story.
    Did you read the comments?
Even they seemed split down the middle about it.

Yeah the guy’s an idiot assuming half the story is true but is he actually a BNP member?
That design of Eagle was used in fashion by “Boy” but was never comdemned as Nazi by anyone, even though it looked that way to me.
How come you didn’t pick up on the other story there of the Queen declaring war on the BNP or did that sound too hysterical even for you?

Then there’s Prince Charles & his dad who speaks fluent German, he attracts nasty stories too about where his loyalties might lie.

Ah yes bonny Bonnie Greer, she makes a good living out of us taxpayers one way & another.
As one comment puts it, our soldiers are not scared of the Taliban but are scared of the BNP?

A question:- Is this site in support of the BNP?
No I thought not, but I love it anyway. It gives Nationalists a nice meeting place. Another one:- Would you consider it a complete failure as it is one of the best places for new ideas? (not Tory ones by the way, a bit thin on the ground eh)?

it is laughable that that you are against racism and intolerance, what about the racism and intolerance against white people, not agin that are you, do you deny that the tories backed the equality bill almost unanimously, the only good thing about this bill is its wonderful sounding name. this horrible bill makes it a legal requirement for employers to positively (lol) discriminate agin white people for employment and promotion

  12. Davey says:

Why is NB gloating about a legitimate political party being ’slammed’ for using a PUBLIC FACILITY, imagine if it was an islamic group that was being ’slammed’ for holding a meeting somewhere? You wouldn’t find that acceptable would you?!

This is persecution of people because of their beliefs – end of story!

I would rather have had the facts direct rather than rely on a press story.
I have to point out, to keep the facts straight, that the RBL premises are private and NOT public.
Can anyone supply the real story?

  17. Nicholas says:

I find it truly curious that NB allows so much dissenting opinion.
Is this in the great British tradition of promoting/tolerating freedom of speech ?
Or , is it done to collect the thoughts of folks for the benefit of planning the Conservative Party election campaign ?

Do veterans “hold in contempt” the BNP for repeatedly stating that the war in Iraq was illegal? Has the news filtered through to the troops that Sir Michael Wood of the FO has given vindicating testimony to the enquiry ?

If Mr.Selous cared to “scout” around (there’s a pun in there – don’t worry if you don’t get it !) a bit more , he would find a fair ferw who support the BNP.

    • WTF says:

Maybe the amount of dissenting opinion might tell them something?
It might be that the BNP are popular or it might be that the Conservatives are still unpopular?
      Or maybe both!
