Recent media attacks on economic liberalism (free trade, open markets, light regulation, etc) in the centre-Left media are finding a sympathetic hearing amongst BNP commentators. A couple of examples.
1. The Migration Policy Institute report into immigration was translated by the Guardian into “Eastern European immigration ‘has hit low-paid Britons”.
This was echoed on the BNP’s website last night: “The expansion of the European Union has definitely caused wages to drop in Britain, a new official report by the Migration Policy Institute has revealed.”
The real quote from the MPI report reads: “There is no strong reason to expect a significant negative impact on wages or employment in response to the recent immigrant influx.”
The Migration Policy Institute was a subtle report, careful to point out that the benefits of immigration, and also to highlight that we should avoid trapping British workers in low skill jobs.
While mainstream economists believe that at the very worst immigration has a neutral effect on the economy, the YouGov / MigrationWatch poll released on Sunday showed that in marginal seats even Liberal Democrat voters believed 51% to 21% that immigration had a bad effect on the economy. Is it any any surprise when the media twists stories to play up to popular prejudices?
2. We can see a similar anti-liberalism in the media response to Cadbury / Kraft deal. Typical of centre-Left coverage is the Guardian headline: “The sad lesson of Cadbury is the City still holds the whip”.
BNP Legal Director Lee Barnes shares this view (though with a anti-Semitic twist): “We must stop the asset stripping of British companies by avaricious American globalist corporate Jewish controlled companies owned by people such as Irene Rosenfeld the director of Kraft”.
Economic liberalism provides the prosperity that pays the nation’s bills and ill-informed attacks on immigration and corporate take-overs support opponents of economic freedom, like the national socialist BNP.

What do you mean plays into the hands of the BNP? We are the ones leading not following. The Conservatives should try CONSERVING something for a change. Cadburys going stateside is a National disgrace and to support it you look like a party not ready for Government.
Hot debate. What do you think?

There has always been an envious ogling of the Cadbury brand. Not so long ago there was an attempt by some eu members to disqualify chocolate being ascribed to cadbury as these nations thought that it was not true chocolate, but this faded away. Now, just watch, this will become a total mish mash of all that we have enjoyed for many years , one more knife in the back for cool britannia. The answer is to set up a brand to be known as british chocolate, making here and only here. Any offers?

I hope Cadbury’s stay here but I wouldn’t be surprised if the factories close down.
Why can’t we make things here, yes I know all about globalisation, cheaper to make it abroad etc.
We have to produce something otherwise we will end up living on charity handouts.

Agree. Everything now seems to be made in China. The steelworkers on the dole for one. Typical soft britannia. Had her teeth pulled years ago.I do not know what we can produce anymore. Even the toilet paper is made in Germany. Quite sad to say the least. One option is to finger the world and go back to steam.Just think of the jobs that would bring.Global warming is a myth for nefarious ends.

The Labour party, in awakening to the fact that there are white people in Britain, are holding low-level constituency consultations on the changes that have been wrought through the open-door immagration policy that THEY implemented. As your article shows well, we have to tread a tightrope between replacing the open-door with a selective-entry system on the one hand, and playing into the hands of fascists like the BNP on the other. I suspect there’s no safety net.

As much as I like steam trains they are very hard work!
Modern steam engines might be a different idea, I saw a microscopic one that ran on a drop of water, some sort of nano technology.
Originally steam & electric cars were superior to petrol ones but advances & cheapness made petrol & its derivatives the winner until now, that may now being changing, depends on peak oil theory & the like.

Only the tories can think it’s a good thing that a foreign competitor gobbles up a British company with the intention of running it down and creating unemployment!
How can Kraft buying Cadbury good for Britain?

Whats all that fucking “globalisation”,shit, another man made thing to bring this country to her knees, its about saving our industries and if china want to make something for £2,then tax it so its the same as a British made item,if you want to live the way they do then carry on swamping our country with foreign made goods,if we dont do something quick,we will live in squalor and wont be able to afford hot water………..wake up for your childrens sake.
