An afternoon spent with the Fabians , for their conference session on “Challenging Extremism: what’s fuelling the rise of the far right?”.
Some encouraging points. A recognition that the BNP thrive in white working class communities that feel under threat and which too often mainstream parties have ignored (ie not simply caused by red-top rabble-rousing). A recognition that the BNP are not a flash in the pan – that they are contesting seats across the country, and unless they are confronted there is a real risk of more BNP elected representatives, each one creating real harm and division in their community.
Also interesting to hear a discussion about how far the Labour brand has been tarnished in these communities, once core votes for Labour.
Less encouraging were the frequently-voiced instincts to seek political advantage from the fight against extremism . In a later session, various policy ideas were suggested to a Dragon’s Den panel as how best to beat the Tories. The first of these ideas, suggested by Liberal Conspiracy’s Sunny Hundal, was that Labour should take the lead in fighting the BNP as a way of differentiating itself from ‘right wing parties of privilege’, particularly the Conservatives.
As John Denham’s speech also showed this week, we are beginning to see among the left a new focus on issues of class, trying to draw the poor from all ethnicities into one victimised group. Instead of trying to find a positive British culture that all can contribute to or addessing the real grievances of the working class, some in the Left are in danger of using the fight against the BNP as a way of shoring up the core vote.
We should all be trying to help the white working class feel they have a voice in society, not using the BNP as a political football.

The Fabians fighting extremism!
Getting rid of that nasty organization would be a start, their plotting, planning & manipulation are one good reason for the existance of the BNP.
Don’t they have the symbol of a wolf in sheeps clothing as a stained glass window?

The BNP thrives in traditional working class areas? My arse you say. If that were the case then why is it strongest in Essex? That is where the Tories are shitting their loads at the thought of a breakthrough – it isn’t just Margaret Hodge who is under threat, so are at least two Tories.
Let’s be honest – these are the folk who got a class above themselves during the maggot’s time and are now getting undercut by Polish plumbers and who now can’t finance their lifestyles with easy credit. Working class by definition, middle class by aspiration. They and the BNP were made for each other.

NB hits the nail on the head, when it states that the left are trying to shore up its core vote, by appealing to the “poor” ethnic voter.
One of the by products of multiculturalism, has been the left grabbing these voters; no wonder the left are such proponents of this failed policy in the first place.
The Tory’s don’t have the balls to address the problems in Britain; only a vote for the BNP in your next election, will start the ball rolling to fix the problems of the Caliphate of Britain.

Extraordinary to hear a spokesman for Nothing British saying how ghastly it is to “seek political advantage from the fight against extremism”.
Isn’t that the sole purpose of this organisation and this website?
Isn’t it true that Nothing British is funded by the Tories, run by Tories and is really just a rather sneaky element of the Conservative PR machine?
The choice of words is interesting when you say that we should be “helping the white working class FEEL they have a voice…”
Instead of merely making people feel they have a voice, how about actually genuinely listen to what they are saying… and then actually acting on it, on issues like immigration, crime, housing and Islamic extremism?
That’s what the BNP are doing and that’s why people are voting for them.

If you have seen in the Mail on Sunday an article about smacking your children it will open ones eyes ( yet again ) to the abject stupidity of those who would govern us, if you are a white native brrit, or indeed anything other than a moslem you will get the full force of the law for this” horrendous crime”, but if you are moslem no problem, you are now above the law.

Polly would wear a balaclava when servicing his sheep and it would keep the baa baa baa baa baa noise from annoying his ears. Having worked in a heavily unionised car plant elf and safety would be paramount.
