Bill Murray, director of the Soldiers off the Street, claims that his veterans organisation has “no connection” with the British National Party. He claims it is misleading to suggest he has substantial links with the extremist party. In a recent email to Garry Bushell, the well-known TV journalist and who recently suspended his patronage with SOTS, Murray wrote:
“We have NO conection with the BNP. I was a member and resigned there is a hate campaign going on with Tim Montgomerie, James Bethell and Maurice Cousins with their site Nothing British ”
Specifically, Murray claims he left the BNP in August 2009. But strong links between Murray and the BNP remain well established.
For example, in November 2009 Nick Griffin said it was “politically beneficial” to be linked with SOTS. He told Scottish media:
“It’s politically beneficial for us to be seen with these organisations. We are also involved in other veteran organisations such as Help for Heroes and Soldiers off the Street. It definitely doesn’t hurt the party to be connected to these groups.”
On the Soldiers off the Street’s links page, there is posted the crest and a link to a company called Easy Security Services Ltd (company number 06706626). ESS is a security firm which, according to its Companies House records, has Daniel McDonald listed as one of its directors. McDonald is also a BNP PPC for Horsham.
According to the BNP supporting blog TITVS ADVXAS, in August 2009 Roger Phillips, deputy West Wales BNP organiser, sent a message out to party supporters saying:
“… a new charity has launched in the UK that we support and if any of you can offer any kind of help or assistance could you please contact them on the link below. An article can be found here on The Green Arrow website and the Soldiers off the Street website.”

I don’t believe your figures on crime. The perception of crime is high but there isn’t as much as people say. Lots of people drive everywhere these days and mix in very closed communities of families and friends. Society has been atomised and individualised. People fear what they do not know and these days they do not experience very much outside their immediate social circle.
Lots of people think they would get mugged if they went for a walk in the inner-city or if they left their house at night. They would get a pleasant surprise if they visited some of the places the BNP likes to call “no-go areas”.
I accept the point about Incapacity Benefit claimants though. The number claiming IB has rocketed. Another problem is the quantity of “rubbish jobs” – poor pay and no future. I blame the lack of unions – not the foreigner.
I never supported the sale of council houses and have always called for an end to sales and a resumption of building.
There are very few official asylum seekers – I use the term in its legal sense rather than a catch-all term for newcomers with dark skin. Most immigrants are grafters. I know immigrants, Wotan. I know how hard they work.

Your party plans to massively increase public spending just at the time that all sensible people realise that it must be cut. You plan to massively cut taxes.
I don’t believe your figures about savings but I accept you could save money in the short term by retreating from the world.
The real cost to the British people would come when:
1) The prices start to rise as we can no longer buy cheap foreign goods and we struggle to sell our products abroad.
2) Unemployment starts to rise as we lose our trading partners due to protectionism.
3) Taxes rocket as the public are forced to bale-out the uncompetitive British manufacturing the BNP fantasises about resurrecting.
4) We are forced to pay for Griffin’s army of ideological flunkies, and silly racist schemes – the mirror opposite of the PC schemes you now hate.
You plan to cut off Britain’s economy from the world in a bid to be as self-sufficient as possible (basically so you don’t have to talk to any foreigners). It is economic folly of the highest order, Wotan, and so paper-thin it is embarrassing.
I read that the BNP intends to campaign in middle-class areas after realising that they had reached the limits of their support amongst working-class people. You are going to get laughed off the streets when you go into suburbia with this economic illiteracy, Wotan.
