The BNP have helped bail-out a cash-strapped Lancashire bird sanctuary in a bizarre but eye-catching example of the sort of social action that party leaders are hoping will help normalise the BNP’s ragged image. It is reported that “The Three Owls” sanctuary in Rochdale, which costs £10,000 per month, originally contacted Rochadale Council after donations plummeted in the recession. Explaining why he accepted assistance from neo-fascists, Nigel Fowler, Trustee, said, “We do not discriminate against anyone who wants to support Three Owls Bird Sanctuary … we are grateful to anyone who wants to help us in our fight for survival.”
Saving Britain’s birds is a commendable objective but the Trustees of The Three Owls sanctuary, and anyone else working with the BNP like this, should realise they are helping racists and extremists wangle their way into the fabric of British life.
The BNP’s poisonous influence on the British way of life is reported in a number of recent incidents reported on this site: racist bullying in schools, a revival in football hooliganism, reports of a violent attack on a Moslem cleric and, more generally, a new strain of intolerance in the workplace and in British politics.
Think again, Rochdale bird lovers, and give the racists their money back.
