The UK and Turkey were co-garantors to the independence of the island. Greece was wanting union with Cyprus (the old Enosis stuff which claimed British lives). When Turkey approached the UK on the matter, hoping for a united front, the UK (Labour government busy reducing our armed forces) reneged on it's responsibility. Turkey did not. I disagree with Griffin on this.
