Row brewing over Premier League golly wogs

A Golly Wog being sold on Phillip's web-site

A row is brewing between a Powys-based seller of racist novelty goods and the Premier League over the use of club insignia and colours for racist memorabilia.

Patriot Products, run by BNP supporter Roger Phillips, sells a range of “official” merchandise alongside BNP badges, “Enoch Powell was right” paraphernalia and golly-wogs wearing the colours of clubs like Manchester United, Portsmouth and Wolves.

Patriot Products was launched at this years BNP Red, White and Blue rally.

The site is managed by the Green Arrow, an anti-Semitic, anti-Moslem blog run by Paul Morris, a BNP activist and conspiracy theorist.

The Premier League, Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur FC have Nothing British’s dossier and are considering their options.

The legal costs of a battle with this irritating little site may seem disproportionately large. However, the football industry has invested so much to rid itself of assocations with racism that any complacency could be very costly in the long term.

I don’t think the mechandise directly infringes their copyrights, both red & blue are widely used by a lot of people, so I can’t see what they can do.
I haven’t seen anything that uses a particular club name either but if you know better I am sure you will provide the evidence?

OK thanks for that info, Maurice.
But I think a lot of that doesn’t quite infringe copyright, though Bill Shankley’s family might be able to object to his image being used.
So they may pull a couple of lines & would probably carry on much as usual.

Sam Pauli is a fascist racist as he has only named BLACK footballers in his choice of a football team. If he wants inclusion of all he should practice what he preaches! He should have picked a team of all colours. RACISM CUTS BOTH WAYS!! Its stupid inflammetory statements like that that fan the flames of hate. IS HE A WHITE HATER?….

andypandy ya thick fecker ,my whole point in picking those players was,if the british nazi party get in to power(pmsl)Ingerlund wont,do you hear me WONT be able to select these players, and do you think Mr Capello will hang about ,so then youd have to find a successful white englishman to take the reigns, now youll struggle to fill that position.Who was the last english manager to win the premiership?oops thats right theres never been one.

Golliwog (not Golly Wog, as you’ve written it) football badges have been on sale for decades, and before that Golliwog badges were sold on the back of British jam jars. So what’s racist, or not British about them? Is Carol Thatcher a racist? I don’t think so, but you people obviously do.
