Charity Commission statement on our campaign

The Charity Commission has responded to our campaign with the following statement. What is particularly interesting about this statement is the last paragraph. And yet, when NB spoke to SOTS back in September we were told that it would become a charity “by the end of the month”.

“The Charity Commission is aware of the press coverage regarding Nothing British about the BNP’s report, Stolen Valour, in which the Commission is mentioned. We have obtained a copy of the report and will be responding directly to Nothing British on the points that they have raised.

“Charities should usually seek to maximise their income. However, in some circumstances trustees may decide that it would not be in the best interests of their charity to accept a donation, if this would damage the charity’s reputation or its ability to do its good work would be compromised. Trustees should be able to demonstrate how and why they have made any such decision and the Commission is happy to advise in such cases.

“There is nothing in charity law that prohibits members of a political party from establishing and/or being the trustee of a charity. However, no charity can have political purposes or support a political party. All trustees must act only in the charity’s best interests and must not represent the interests of any outside organisation or their own personal interests. To do otherwise would be a breach of trust.

“‘Soldiers off the Street’ is not a registered charity, and must not claim to be a registered charity. We have not received any application to register from an organisation by that name. Any application to register as a charity would be considered in line with the registration criteria as set out on our website. In order to register, charities must be established for exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit and must not have any political purpose.”

Can you tell me what evidence you have regarding Stolen Valour accusations about Soldiers off the street, I visited their site and they haven’t broke and laws and are not claiming to be a charity. Even on Nothing British they admit that Bill Murray is a former bnp member, link can be seen here: http://www.nothingbritish.com/10/astroturf-watch-soldiers-off-the-street-responds-to-nothing-british/ It seems that a lot of lies are being told but when asked for evidence no one can come up with it, so can you please publish it for all to see.

On soldiers off the street website they say they need to raise £5000 to become a charity, so whats your point, they are not claiming to be a charity? This is a witch hunt because he used to be in the bnp. Maybe you should have done your research better before you start libeling people, I hope they sue you.

This is not a reasoned argument. It is merely a statement of the degree of bullying that people and organisations are subjected to in this country. The liberal/political elite are running scared because of the BNP and they threaten to destroy anyone who betrays the slightest degree of dissent at the altar of cultural marxism. If the people who dreamed up this website think that is healthy then I’m afraid that their politics are something I would never have dreamed could again take a stranglehold in Britain.
They must be dreaming of going back to a time when the workers on their estates (I believe one of them holds a title) could only use their vote to support the Tories.Even a vote for the Liberal Party could result in dismissal and the loss of home and livelihood.

When we spoke to SOTS we were told that they were going to become a charity very. Implying an application was in going through the process. We also have evidence that SOTS are still involved with the BNP and intend to attend the St Georges Day parade to bring troops back from Afghanistan. These remarks were made two weeks after SOTS was incorporated.

    Quote from SOTS’ mission statement.

“The first thing an homeless ex service personnel sells, in order to live are their medals. Once we have helped them settle we intend helping them recover them back, they are the rightful owners not some collector or dreamer. ”

And here is Nothing British trying to stop that? Merely because it was founded by an EX-member of the British National Party???

There’s Nothing British about Nothing British.
