Melanie Phillips
The Spectator and Daily Mail columnist Melanie Phillips has written an excellent piece on the failure of Westminster’s elite to get to grips with the BNP.
According to Phillips, the BNP’s ”opponents have settled upon the wrong strategy.” She says that instead of trying to legislate or suppress the BNP it should be taken head on. And the Liberal Establishment’s failure to do so is “precisely why Griffin has made the headway that he has.”
Phillips also points out the futility of attacking Nick Griffin for being a racist. Even though he is one. Phillips believes, quite rightly, that Griffin’s appeal is not built on his racist beliefs but on his opposition to “mass immigration, Islamisation and the loss of sovereignty to the EU.”
As Phillips says: “These are all legitimate concerns which are widely held by people who fear the loss of Britain’s historic identity — but which are stigmatised as beyond the pale by an intelligentsia which considers any such expression of nationalistic sentiment to be a form of racism.”
The liberal elite’s flawed theory that “bigotry and imbecility of ordinary people” are responsible for the rise of BNP is condemned for being narrow minded. Phillips says it is the fault of the elite for turning ”patriotism from a civic virtue into a racial crime” and it “has driven thousands of decent, patriotic British people, both white and dark-skinned” into BNP supporters.

Like David Aaronovitch and Nick Cohen her popularising of anti-Islam sentiment can go hand in hand with anti-BNP propaganda because it is motivated by the same rational ethnic interests. Leaving aside Melanie, who is not worth discussing, Nothing British is entirely wrong to assume that the BNP’s ideas are not based on a long standing, racist belief in WHITE SUPREMACISM. This ideology has been, and still is, the long standing belief of the BNP and its squalid forebears – for decades. Melanie and Nothing British (in agreement with her) might gloss over the central white supremacist ideology of the BNP, but those with a modicum of intelligence should not do so. Everything else (concern over immigration, anti-Islam stance etc) are simply expressions of that ideology. Their anti-immigrant stance, for example, is not moderate: to them its only the first step to “racially cleanse” the UK. They are still antisemitic too; however, they have tactically changed emphasis to Muslims (code for Pakistanis etc), and downplayed the Jew hatred. But antisemitism is still embraced by the party.

Melanie, needless to say, will not be at the forefront of any campaign against the BNP. She agrees (at least partially) with the BNP’s voiced concerns over Islam, the EU, etc. She will agree and then say “yes, but…”
Presumably she will be happy with a vote for UKIP (at least as protest vote), but that would not bother the BNP. In fact, a reasonable level of right wing small party support (other than the BNP) is also good for the BNP; it draws support from Labour and the Tories etc., whilst acting as reserve pool that the BNP can later draw on. The Melanie Philips of this world are simply agents of that process (whether knowingly or not) as she froths every day in her permanent obsession over Islam.

The establishment cannot take on the BNP in a fair argument on policy but will always focus purely on the race issue in a vain hope to stir up visions of Hitler & the waffen SS it’s comical. For her position on Islam, I adore Melanie Phillips. She is aware of the lies and hypocrisy of the multicultural frankenstein society that we live in.

The fact is that Melanie’s opinions about Zionism and the state of the UK make her in lock step with the BNP, as are many other “commentators”.
The facts are, however, that despite the contradiction of wanting a Jewish State whilst denying the British their own land they also know that should they not issue the standard “knuckle dragging fascist” line every time they mention the BNP they would be sacked and their income stream would dry up.
Just read Melanie’s “Londonistan” – it could easily have been written by Nick Griffin – but he would have been imprisoned for it.
