Dorset veterans speak out against BNP leader
Dorset war veteran William Davis-Sellick, aged 75, was among a number of Devonshire and Dorset Regiment veterans who joined the grieving families of the soldiers to fly the regimental standard at the ceremony last Tuesday in Wooton Bassett.
According to a local Dorset newspaper, Mr Davis-Sellick and his comrades were incensed to see the BNP leader with a contingent of party members at the solemn occasion at Wootton Bassett.
He said: “I understand it was the first time he has ever been to one of these ceremonies. I think for him to be there on this occasion was totally wrong and it caused a lot of disruption. You could see that some people were very upset to see him there and there were some people who wanted to duff him up.
“The police were having to protect him. As an ex-serviceman I have spoken to quite a lot of other servicemen and they were not happy to see him there at the repatriation of our lads. He was just there to have his photograph taken.”
Mr Davis-Sellick served as a cook in the Dorset Regiment in the early 1950s before its merger with the Devonshire Regiment, and was deployed to the Korean War. He is now an active member of the Gillingham branch of the Devonshire and Dorset Regimental Association, which has its main headquarters in Exeter.
He said: “We send as many men as we can muster to each repatriation service to fly our standards and they are very emotional occasions. To see the parents throwing flowers on the hearses is very hard. Although I was only a cook in the Army, I had some very good friends that I lost out there and these ceremonies bring those memories back.”
Tony Coombes, secretary of the Gillingham branch, who spent his national service in the Dorset Regiment between 1955-57, said that crowds were unhappy with Mr Griffin’s presence.
He said: “There were a lot of people in the crowd who were concerned by that gentleman’s presence and found it somewhat disturbing. However, I would suppose he would say that it is his right to be there.”
The Devon and Dorsets were amalgamated into the Rifles which was formed in 2007 and is the largest infantry regiment in the British Army. The Rifles has been hit hard by the recent upsurge in violence in Afghanistan. It has suffered 29 fatalities so far this year. The latest was killed by small arms fire on Sunday. On Monday this week, both Mr Davis-Sellick and Mr Coombes were again in Wootton Bassett with representatives of the Devonshire and Dorset Regimental Association to pay their respects as former Dorchester schoolboy Philip Allen, 20, of the 2nd Battalion the Rifles and Samuel Bassett, 20, of 4th Battalion the Rifles, who was from Plymouth.
Sikh pilot who fought Nazis condemns Griffin
One of the last surviving Indian Second World War fighter pilots has launched an attack on the BNP after it used images of a Spitfire in its campaign.
Mohinder Singh Pujji hit out at the far-Right party, and urged all British ethnic minorities not to shun the forces. The 92-year-old RAF Squadron Leader flew a Spitfire in the Battle of Britain and also met Sir Winston Churchill. He was one of only 18 Indian pilots in the RAF in the war, and the only Sikh to fly wearing his turban.
Sqn Ldr Pujji said he was outraged at the way the BNP has used imagery from the war: “The BNP are wrong to use the Spitfire as representative of their party. They forget people from different backgrounds helped in the Second World War. I am proof of this – I was flying a Spitfire. I also met Winston Churchill. Even in those days, there were ethnic minorities fighting for the British. I would recommend the armed forces for young people, regardless of race.”
Sqn Ldr Pujji was born in Shimla, India, and volunteered for the RAF in 1940 after qualifying as a pilot in 1937.He was shot down twice and flew missions in North Africa and Burma, winning the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war he flew commercial airlines, settling in Newham before moving to Gravesend. He was made a freeman of Newham in 2005.

That’s okay. I must admit I actually have a great respect for many of the BNP people who post on here. I would be lying if I said my previous experiences of debating with BNP supporters was particularly pleasant, and I’m not going to repeat some of what has been argued. I would like to think (or at least I’d hope) that these were however rather extreme examples of BNP members.

I have lived in a Moslem dominated area that spawned terrorism & also worked with them.
I did notice a new breed of very po faced orthodox ones around 2001 onwards.
I have also lived & worked with gay people.
I don’t think I have said anything anti gay, though I have had some criticisms of certain gay llifestyles but also of certain hetrosexuals as well.

What can be argued or said that is so terrible compared to the treatment that baby P received or what happens to young lads in South London? So much valuable time, legislation and resources are wasted on hurt feelings. Real crime goes unpunished and unnoticed.
Sign up to the charter of infantilism and emotionalism, ignore your true gut feelings and the extreme left will win. Political correctness (ie cultural marxism) isn’t caring or kind. It is controlling and anti-democratic and above all it chooses its own victims and displays no mercy towards them.
However, the choice is yours. Sit and tell sad tales of kings or open your eyes to what is really going on.

Unless you’ve experienced it yourself how can you imagine what its like? I’m not comparing it to what happened to Baby P or kids murdered, but without experiencing it yourself you can’t really play it down. No-one should have to be discriminated against, abused or treated intolerantly for what they are, or the lifestyle they choose. Why is thinking everyone should be treated with equal respect such a problem?

I can get along well enough with homosexuals as long as they do not make a big thing of it. I abhor such a lifestyle (it goes against my Christian beliefs) but I am not going to castigate them for it.
I DO object to those who flaunt it. The disciplining of Strathclyde firemen who refused to take part in a homosexual parade was a disgrace. What is next, bondage parades? Flagellation parades? I am offended by such displays as are many others. They can do what they want to each other as long as they keep it behind doors.
On a lighter note: Using a chicken as a sex toy is kinky. Using the whole chicken is perversion.

Don’t worry Edmund, I’ve been through it – in ways you wouldn’t believe but I’d still rather I had my freedom to retaliate.Don’t you understand that a huge number of people in this country are discriminated against and there is nothing they can do about it unless they want to end up in court/prison?

I’m not saying that them being discriminated against is right, my argument was that NO-ONE should be. In my opinion either discrimination is entirely wrong or you let anyone suffer it, its hypocritical to say its okay to discriminate against certain groups and not others. Like I said, everyone should be treated equally fairly.

Two things: 1) unless I missed it (feel free to point it out to me if I did) no-one has answered what’s wrong with not discriminating against anyone. 2) Although I agree teaching little kids about sex at all is more than a little creepy, I’m yet to see any proof that teaching older pupils about homosexuality makes them gay. Feel free to provide proof if it exists. I’m not suggesting we promote it, but considering our “liberal” society of the 21st century has resulted in gangs of teenagers kicking two different gay men to death NOT telling them is hardly making the situation better at the moment. I’m sure someone will disagree with me there though. I would just like to point out that, in spite of what many think based on my musical taste, I am actually straight.

This probably sounds mad, especially coming from a straight guy, but if gay people want to celebrate being gay with a parade I have no problem with that. If they do anything extreme then the police are likely to arrest them anyway. It should become a day to celebrate not being “normal”, cos in my experience normality get really boring after a while.

That’s probably true MLJ, doesn’t alter the fact that…in my eyes anyway, NO-ONE should be discriminated against. I’m yet to hear a convincing argument for why not discriminating against people, and thus treating everyone equally, is a bad idea. I’m sure it annoys people who want Britain to return to the “good old days” (which were when exactly?), but short of converting everyone to Christianity or chucking out everyone who’s isn’t a straight Christian, then in my opinion everyone deserves fair treatment.
Just purely out of curiosity, do the BNP have any opinion on atheists?

I…well, I would say she did better than Straw and Huhne on QT, but that’s an unintentionally back-handed compliment. She seems like a nice enough person to me.
Unfortunately recent experience is teaching me that the idea that Britain has become tolerant and welcoming to everyone is largely wishful thinking. Its probably BETTER than it was before, but its not as great as some might have you believe.
I’m sorry if this sounds like a very bad answer to the discrimination question, but I’m not sure any time where people were discriminated against was good. There seems to have always been at least one group who got treated massively unfairly compared to others, and unfortunately that trend appears to be continuing.

I agree, charging people for not going is ridiculous, no-one should have to go on it, and I’m fairly sure they don’t MAKE people watch it. If I know something I’m not going to enjoy is happening in town I don’t go where I know its going to happen. If there’s going to be a BNP gathering where I live I just don’t go to wherever they are, simple as that. It may amaze some BNP people to know but gay people aren’t trying to make everyone else gay, they often just want more respect for who they are. I saw something that revealed homophobic bullying in schools is the only type there is no strategy for dealing with, its just left to the school as to how to deal with it.

Someone just linked me the BNP story about sex education and, unless I’ve missed something, children are teenagers before actual SEX gets mentioned at all (not that you’d believe that from the comments). Someone made the argument that trying to inform older children about same-sex relationships would decrease bullying and was told we can’t have children thinking its “normal” or “right”. I personally think this is being blown out of proportion.

Why is it, unless I’m just failing to read something in the description, that my reading of the government’s sex education policy seems to contradict the official BNP line? At least if we teach people not to be prejudiced against other cultures or lifestyles we may one day get the actual ACCEPTING society everyone thinks we’re in. I’m yet to see proof that teaching kids about being gay/transgender makes them become that.

So what, we should just allow discrimination against anyone? In my opinion unless we want to appear hypocrites we can’t say discrimination is only wrong in some circumstances. I still haven’t heard a convincing argument for why treating everyone the same (i.e. fairly) is such a bad idea. Then again trying to work out why an American thinks everyone having access to healthcare is a bad thing is a tough argument too.

WTF,this is from The Times Online.I do not remember the second part actually happening. They said there would be far right trouble in Luton but when it came to it no one came. The young muslims then attacked the police, who comme toujours, ran off.
“In March, soldiers from the 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment returning home to Luton were confronted by a handful of Muslim protesters carrying placards saying “Anglian Soldiers: Butchers of Basra” and “Anglian Soldiers: Cowards, Killers, Extremists”. One in five of Luton’s 200,000 population is Muslim.
Two months later there were violent clashes as anti-Islamist protesters clashed with police. The mob, which included teenagers and women, also held banners with slogans such as “No Sharia Law in the UK” and “Respect Our Troops”. Several of the crowd hid their faces behind balaclavas, brandished England flags and chanted at officers. ”
The second paragraph I do not remember happening.

With regard to the second paragraph, I assume it is a distorted reference to the time half a dozen or so EDL turned up & a mob of Moslems from all over the place turned up to “protect” the mosque but actually attacked the police & threw things?
Proof of that was shown in many “YouTube” videos.
I don’t think the EDL have ever attacked the police, their numbers tend to be fairly small?

Hello all,
I have read most of the posts submitted by yourselves, I have to add I found them interesting as it is refreshing to read others point of view. Firstly, referring to the post about the young Muslims attacking the police? It could be seen as young people just jumping on the bandwagon, I do believe they need to spend more time, gaining an education and realise, what real life is all about and putting their skills to good use, thus, somehow, joining together with the greater powers, that seemingly run our country.
Secondly, as for Homosexuality, it is something that has been around for centuries, greeks, romans and many other Ancient Cultures, throughout history and the world, were known to have those who preferred same sex relationships. I agree, we who are considered to be Hetrosexuals, do not need it rammed down our throats, as we are aware that Homosexuality exists and is still alive and kicking.
However, I am a great believer, if we are different in anyway, then expect to be ridiculed, intimidated, verbally/physically abused and blamed for the economic crisis that has once again reared its ugly head. At times like this, prejudice turns to out of control racism.
It saddens me that, in the 21st Century, Racism, is tolerated and no-one has actively and/or in a positive way taken steps, to even try or attempt to eradicate it!
As, for the BNP Chairman (I choose not to put his name in “Typed Text, as that gives him a form of recognition, he does not deserve or worthy of)!!!! Who made him “GOD”, what has he done for the United Kingdom lately, apart from show himself and his mindless followers, as being uninformed, misguided and unable to take blame for their life struggles. We all have times of hardship, everyone does, however, we don’t, enter into a phase of “Denial” and blame the easiest target at any given time!
Who is he and his “Lambs”, to say, if you are brown, black or the like, you have no say or rights in this country. Even if you are white and have either or both in your family, you are apparently not, “Indigenous Of The United Kingdom”!
I think the BNP Chairman, should advise his researchers, to double check the term “Indigenous”, before they put it to print!
As I am certain they would not want to be associated with many cultures, who are and proud to be considered as such!!!:)?
You see my Great Father, like many fought in the
1st WW and my Grandfather in the 2nd WW. My Great Grandfather was Polish/East End Jew(My grandmothers father) and my Grand Father was of Spanish/Irish parents, he was born in North London. So, would the Chairman of the BNP, slander them and many like them? Because it doesn’t suit him and his , band of followers?
It get’s even more interesting, as I too am mixed race, my mother, of course is of european appearance and my father, his half white cuban/West Indian? I bet many will be screaming and running down the street right now lol
Well, you know what, I am a strong and independent woman. My strengths come from those mentioned above, the best of all!
My children are mixed also, they have in turn acquired positive traits and have grown into fine adults! Who love this country and see it as their home, they too have worked and DO NOT AND WOULD NOT MILK the resources of the country! I see it as an insult that due to someones heritage/bloodline, they are judged and seen as a “Non Entity”. God Save the Queen, God Keep our Soldiers from all nations SAFE AND never forget THE VETERANS SACRIFICED, from all corners of the globe!
“DO NOT JUDGE A MAN BY THE COLOUR OF HIS SKIN, BUT BY THE CONTENT OF HIS CHARACTER”!!!!!!

Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING.

Well before they started poking their noses in it was unfortunately hardly perfect anyway. Unfortunately MLJ there are those, thankfully I believe in a minority, who believe certain groups should be discriminated against in certain cases: e.g. civil partnerships and gay adoption. I’m sure some people will ask why a straight guy is so bothered about how gay people are treated, I personally am bothered by anyone being treated unfairly. I’m sure there must be a way to ensure all are treated fairly and equally without forcing everyone to all believe in the same thing.

Are you not worried about the “Gay” links with paedophilia? I am not suggesting that all, or even the majority of poofs are interested in children but there are enough to cause worry.
I still don’t know why they need parades to demand “respect”. Respect is not something to be granted to all in a group. It must be gained anf the best way to do so is by one’s behaviour as a person.

Children are at more risk from family members than gay people. Its as they say, the problem with warning about stranger danger is that the strangers aren’t the biggest threat. There are gay paedophiles, but I’ve heard nothing to imply they pose a greater threat than straight ones. There is a, in my opinion laughable, theory that states gay people want to teach schoolchildren its okay as some form of grooming, which in my opinion is somewhere up there with claiming teaching kids homosexuality is normal means they’ll become gay.
I’m not pretending all gay people are wonderful, or all heterosexual people are nasty, but I’m yet to meet a gay person who was any less deserving of respect than any of my straight friends are.

A while back I saw a list of links between both groups, sady I never kept it.
Curiously, “homophobe” means fear of man. Surely that is a lesbian?
Lynette, welcome. You put so many subjects in your post I cannot be bothered to answer them all. I sjould point out that as far as I know, most BNP voters do not want all immigrants repatriated. Rather that immigration should be severely curtailed, that incomers accept our society and integrate (not doing so could be seen as racism) bogus asylum seekers (the majority of this grouping) and illegal immigrants should receive no amnesty and be returned to whence they came.
The USA with it’s still simmering racial problems is a good example of why I want immigration constrained. Try speaking English in some of it’s Californian or New Mexican communities. You might be able to walk about happily in Harlem, I could not.
People in Britain should regard themselves as British and Scottish, English, Welsh or NI, regardless of their skin. Their loyalties should lie here, not in Albania, Somalia, Jamaica, Irish Republic or whatever. Too many do not. There is where the main problem lies for me.

People in Britain should regard themselves as British and Scottish, English, Welsh or NI, regardless of their skin. Their loyalties should lie here, not in Albania, Somalia, Jamaica, Irish Republic or whatever. Too many do not. There is where the main problem lies for me.

Lynette, welcome. You put so many subjects in your post I cannot be bothered to answer them all. I sjould point out that as far as I know, most BNP voters do not want all immigrants repatriated. There are homosexual paedophiles just as there are heterosexual ones, its not a competition over which is more disgusting. Its a huge leap to start assuming any homosexual is a paedophile though.

I already suggested that not all but a higher proportion of homosexuals appear to have such leanings. Homosexual groups have been pushing for lowering the age of consent.

To 16, the same as it is with heterosexual relationships. I don’t see people accusing whoever said the age of consent should be 16 of being a paedophile. And where’s the proof there are more homosexual padeophiles? That’s a pretty big accusation to make if you have no proof.

In 1885 the age of consent was changed from 12 to 16.The age limit was specifically raised to prevent child prostitution. At that time homosexual activity was illegal.
Just thought I’d share that to help with your moitherings.

Why not have both ages of consent at 16? I find the theory that its to help paedophiles ridiculous, I’ve never seen any evidence that would prove that theory.

I can only assume that either the replies are being delayed by this site, or the proof I’m asking for doesn’t actually exist, otherwise someone would produce it.

I don’t have a problem with the age of consent being 16 for all but the government seems condone underage sex without parents being involved.
Somebody else made the observation that on those gay rights marches, he couldn’t help noticing that it seemed to be 40+ men who were very keen on the idea of 16 year old boys being free to have gay sex.
I haven’t exactly noticed a lot of teenage boys demanding gay sex but maybe I mix in the wrong circles?

That’s a LOT different to saying there are links between homosexuality and paedophilia. Is it not possible that they want to gain equality in the consent rules? I doubt, considering the treatment some teenagers get for even the suspicion of being gay, that they’d be shouting it from the rooftop.
The one problem with current consent rules is that if two 15-year olds have consensual sex then it is treated the same as a convicted rapist. Why are we putting them on lists with convicted sex offenders?

Well I guess you have an age of consent & enforce it or you don’t?

But consensual sex between two 15 year olds and a rape are surely not in the same league, yet the man in either case would find himself on the sex offenders register. How is that fair?

I’ll tell you what Edmund, do away with all your liberalism (stone walls do not a prison make etc) and you won’t need to worry about paedophiles.Stop worrying about hurt feelings and human rights. Stop agitating about breaking down barriers and all the other old tosh and maybe we can all be free again.
Have you any idea just how much freedom has been taken away from us all in the name of pc??

Well technically in the consensual sex case both are guilty of under age sex.
In the rape case the older person is guilty & also there is the coersion or violence that would be punished as well.
But elsewhere the victim would be stoned to death for adultery for not having enough male witnesses?

So essentially do what you like and to hell with the consequences? I certainly am not a complete supporter of political correctness but making people free to do whatever they like won’t help Britain. There’s enough prejudice in this country as it is when we’re meant to be “liberal”.

WTF, my point is that putting rapists, paedophiles and teenagers having consensual sex in the same league as each other is ridiculous. Two of those are sick-minded, the other are teenagers who should know better.

To be honest they are different things & I think are ususally treated that way but I don’t have much first hand experience in these cases.

I don’t agree with “do what you like & to hell with the consequences”, I believe in self discipline & restraint, too much of anything is generally a bad thing.
As they say, one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

I agree with self-discipline and restraint WTF. Curiously the Dutch, whose sex education makes our government’s guidelines look positively tame in comparison, has the lowest teen pregnancy rate in Europe.
