The only way to protect manufacturing jobs in the west, is to buy western made goods wherever possible. Manufacturing jobs in China will continue to grow, until global capital decides to invest somewhere else, with cheaper labour costs, ie Zimbabwe. Australia's economy is bouyant and our mining sector is booming as a result of the growth of China, as they need to source most of their raw materials from us. The problem now is that they are not content with merely being customers; they now are seeking to buy up our mining sector... which we are resisting. They are good for us , but they could also be our eventual downfall. A bigger Chinese middle class will arise at the expense of the middle class of Western nations; we will undergo a form of global income redistribution.

I can't help feeling that China will follow a similar path to how Britain was with an Empire, then slowly the little people will start to change things & demand fair pay & holidays & become more middle class.
