Royal British Legion

The BNP’s controversial attempts to align themselves with the Armed Forces has been highlighted by a report in today’s Times.

The Times cites Simon Darby, deputy leader of the BNP, as saying: “Sometimes we gild the lily, but all political parties do that.”

James Bethell, director of Nothing British, told the paper how the BNP’s attempts were a “deliberate strategy”. He said: “This ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ strategy by the BNP is working and allowing them to worm their way into the fabric of British society.”

“BNP admits exaggerating claims of donations to Forces charities” – The Times, page 8.

Tim Montgomerie: Enforce existing guidelines

Yesterday, James Bethell featured on ConservativeHome’s Centre-Right platform where he attacked Ed Balls’s attempts to keep the BNP out of the class room.

Tim Montgomerie, editor of ConservativeHome and a co-founder of Nothing British, said: “The Conservatives share a determination to keep the BNP’s ideology out of the classroom but also want other extremist indoctrination restricted too.  Hizb ut Tahrir, for example.”

He went on to say: “strict enforcement of existing guidelines may be ther best way of protecting schoolchildren.”
